(Neb.)-Haynes places 4th in golf tournament
By: Andrew Lacy Posted at: 07/16/2012 06:39 PM Chadron's Kelli Haynes placed fourth in the Trusted Choice Big I Nebraska Tournament In Norfolk.
Kelli won the regional Big I junior golf tournament in Sidney on June 11th to qualify for the state tournament July 12-13 at Eldorado Hills in Norfolk.
The two-day completion drew some of the state's top junior golfers in the state. The winner is invited to the 44th Trusted Choice Big I national Championship in Austin, TX, Aug. 7-10. The list of place winners is a who's who in Nebraska High School Girls Golf from the past four seasons:
1st – Danielle Lemek (Doniphan Trumbull), 72-64 (Class ‘C’ Champion, 4 years) from Doniphan-Trumbull High School
2nd – Sarah Pravecek (Omaha Marian), 76-70
3rd – Annie Pearson (Elkhorn South), 81-76 (Class B Champion 2011 as a Junior) from Elkhorn South
4th – Kelli Haynes (Chadron), 89-81 (placed third at state last year in Class C) from Chadron
Danielle Lemek was a four time Class C state champion in high school. She is unable to attend the national meet and will be replaced by Pravecek.
Pravecek was a favorite in Class A at the 2011 state tournament, but didn't compete due to illness. Pearson was Class B champion.
Haynes place third in Class C in 2011. According to Chadron High golf coach Curt Holmquist, she has been playing some tournaments in Colorado this summer to keep in the competitive mode. She will be playing in a Colorado Junior tournament in Vail next Monday/Tuesday.
