(Neb.) - Strotheide, Micheel struggle on day one of State Tourney

By: John Thayer Posted at: 05/22/2012 04:03 PM

NORTH PLATTE – It was a tough day on the golf course for a couple of area golfers during round one of the Class D Nebraska State Golf Tournament held at River’s Edge Golf Club in North Platte.

Colton Micheel of Crawford opened with a par and bogey before finding trouble on the par 4 3rd and finishing the hole 6-over. Micheel again found trouble on the Par 4 8th when he finished 5-over on the hole. He only had one double bogey the rest of the day, nothing worse, but found himself with a 94 (+24) on the day. Micheel carded a par on five holes on the day, while shooting bogey nine times. He had two double bogeys and two holes that went beyond double bogey.

Regg Strotheide of Hay Springs had a later tee time on the day and also started off well. He began on the No. 10 tee and was even after the first two holes. However, after the 13th he was 7-over on the day. The par 4 18th was not friendly to Strotheide as he finished 5-over on the hole. He struggled for a couple more triple bogeys and a +4 on the Par 4 8th before a Par and bogey on the final three holes. He ended the day with an even 100 (+30).

It hasn’t been an easy day for anyone on the course as the clubhouse leader finished the day at 6-over. Only fiver players turned in a score lower than 10-over.

Round two of the tournament is on Wednesday.
