(Neb.) - Newman named to RMAC All-Academic First Team; 16 others honored

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State College’s Lanar Newman has been selected to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic First Team.
Newman, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, who has a 3.87 GPA in business, was also a first team all-academic choice last year and was an All-American in the long jump in 2011.
Two other men were placed on the all-academic second team. They are Lincoln Proud, a senior from Pinedale, Wyo., who has a 3.46 GPA in sports and recreation, and Paul McGowan, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, who has a 3.87 GPA in business.
Three Chadron State women’s student-athletes were placed on the second team. They are Kaelie Jelden, a junior from Eaton, Colo., who has a 3.84 GPA in elementary education, Stacee Craig, a senior from Powell, Wyo., who has a 3.53 GPA in health sciences, and Jazmyn Webster, a sophomore from Cheyenne, Wyo., who has a 3.31 GPA in physical education and health.
In addition to the first and second team selections, 11 Chadron State men and women earned honorable mention.
The women’s selections include Liz Ellicott of Harrison, Neb., Brittney Graham of Hugo, Colo., Alyssa Norton of Rushville, Neb., Cyndi Thomas of Omaha, and Shelby Placke of Johnstown, Colo.
The men’s selections include Gavan Archibald of St. Ann, Jamaica, Alex Johnson of Kearney, Mathew Mathiason of Pierce, Colo., Sean Munger of Imperial, Alex Petersen of Taylor and Kelly Troester of Marsland.
Adams State’s Kristen McGlynn is the Women’s All-Academic Athlete of the Year. Western State’s Tyler Pennel is the Men’s All-Academic Athlete of the Year.
To qualify for the all-academic teams, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution.
