(Neb.) - Micheel of Crawford and Strotheide of Hay Springs headed to State Golf

SUTHERLAND - The Hay Springs and Crawford golf teams joined 11 other teams on Monday in Sutherland for the D-5 district golf meet at Oregon Trail Golf Course.

Two area individuals - Regg Strotheide of Hay Springs and Colton Micheel of Crawford - earned a spot into the state tournament field after finishing in the top ten. Strotheide shot a 90 on the day to finish eighth, while Micheel was two spots better with an 88.

South Loop won the meet with a team score of 377. They were followed by Dundy County/Stratton and Mullen, who turned in team scores of 381 and 391, respectively. The three schools earn a team qualification to the state meet.

Hay Springs finished fifth on the day with a 403 and in addition to the effort of Strotheide, Seth Badje shot a 97, Marcus Sandberg carded a 107, Dustin Lee turned in a 109 and Nate Letcher scored a 119.

Crawford was led by Micheel and followed by Taylor Wohlers 97, Layne Homrighausen with a 108, Alora Tweet shot a 122 and Blendon Olson with a 126. The team shot 415 to finish seventh.

The Class D State Tournament is held at River's Edge Golf Club in North Platte on May 22-23. Micheel is scheduled to head off the No. 1 tee box at 10:00 a.m., while Strotheide will begin on No. 10 at 11:30 a.m. in Tuesday's Day 1 action.
