(Neb.)-Chadron's Grants Enjoyed Recent All-Star Softball Experience

By: John Kant Posted at: 07/30/2010 05:14 PM

Recent Chadron High grad Brooke Grant played in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Softball Game, Wednesday, at UNL's Bowlin Field.

Grant, who also played basketball at CHS, will play softball at Black Hills State, in Spearfish, next season.

Chadron softball coach Dee Dee Grant served as an assistant coach in Wednesday's game.

Brooke's team (red) came up short in both games of the double header.  Game 1 was 1-0 in extra innings (8 innings) - Game 2 was high-scoring with blue winning again 10-8.  Brooke played half of each game at second base.  Offensively, she was 0 for 1 in the first game, and 1 for 2 in game two (single up the middle) and scored one run in the second game.  She had 3 put-outs, 3 assists, no errors.  In the second game, she had a double play, where the centerfielder and shortstop collided on a blooper fly ball and Brooke caught it about a foot off the ground as it bounced off the centerfielder's back and then threw it to third to get the second out on the girl who had advanced to home.  Both Brooke and Dee Dee thought the best part was playing (and coaching) at UNL's Bowlin Field.
