Morrow Wins Two Events, Lemmon Repeats At Fur Trade Rodeo
By: John Kant Posted at: 07/12/2010 08:39 AM Lane Morrow won both the bareback riding and the steer wrestling to take top honors during the 12th annual Fur Trade Days Rodeo at the Dawes County Fairgrounds on Saturday night. He scored 74 and 75 points on his barebacks and flipped his steer in 6.9 seconds. Morrow is a native of Brush, Colo., who now lives in the Chadron area.
Another standout was Shalee Lemmon of Chadron, who won the barrel race for second year in a row. Her time this year was 17.10 seconds.
Earlier this month, Lemmon won the barrels at the Nebraska State High School Rodeo in Hastings. She will be competing in the barrel race and the pole bending next week at the National High School Rodeo in Gillette.
One of the Fur Trade Days Rodeo’s highlights was in the breakaway roping, where Jaime Musfelt of Lusk caught her calf in 2.7 seconds.
Cowboys who won events aside from Morrow were Cole Waters of Pine Ridge, saddle bronc riding; Andy Hollibaugh of Chadron, calf roping; Tennessee Nix of Chadron, bull riding; and Lee Wurdeman and Jerry Gruwell of Lusk, team roping.
The bull riding lived up to its reputation of being rodeo’s most dangerous event. Two cowboys who were “hung up” at the end of their rides were injured. Kyle Reddy of Wounded Knee sustained a facial laceration and Charis Mader of Crawford suffered a broken right leg when the bull stepped on it.
