(Neb)-Traffic Stops Lead To Seizure Of $650,000 In Pot
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Two routine traffic stops moments and a short distance apart just before 4:00 Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 near Lincoln resulted in 3 arrests and the seizure of more than 200 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $650,000.
The Nebraska State Patrol says the first stop was for an eastbound SUV whose front license plate was completely obscurred by ice and snow while the second stop was of a speeding pickup, also eastbound.
During the two stops, troopers determined the vehicles were traveling together, leading to a decision to call a drug dog. The dog detected drugs in the SUV and a search revealed a small amount of marijuana.
The pickup was then searched and 218 pounds of pot with an estimated value of $654,000 was found under the bed cover. The two occupants of SUV and the lone person in the pickup are all being held on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
