(Neb)-State Halts Use Of Challenged Guardrails
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Department of Transportation will temporarily stop using highway guardrail end caps manufactured by a Nebraska company that have been the subject of lawsuits alleging safety defects.
The department says only 4 of the X-Lite guardrail end caps are currently in use in the state, all on the Platte River bridge south of Central City, and they will be removed.
Lawsuits in South Carolina and Tennessee blame the guardrails made by the Lindsay Corporation of Omaha for deaths in those states.
Lindsay denies any liability and says that when properly installed and maintained, "roadside hardware like X-Lite will reduce the number and severity of injuries sustained in car accidents."
