(Neb.)-Badger Day In The Forecast At Wildcat Hills
GERING, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has scheduled Badger Day at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center south of Gering in the Nebraska Panhandle.
Badger Day is set to begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 3.
The commission's Amanda Filipi says Badger Day was inspired by Groundhog Day, which replaced Badger Day.
To Germans, the badgers are the animal of choice for weather forecasting. But German immigrants to America had to substitute groundhogs for weather forecasting when badgers couldn't be found on the East Coast. Badgers are common in the central and western United States.
Badger Day activities are free but a valid Nebraska park entry permit is required for vehicles.
