(Neb)-Nebraska Fuel Tax Going Up Jan 1
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska motorists will pay a little more per gallon at the pump on New Year's Day - 1.4-cents more, bringing the total to 28.4-cents per gallon.
The Nebraska fuels tax has 3 parts - wholesale, variable and fixed. The wholesale tax is based on the wholesale price of fuel and will drop from 9.5 cents to 8.7 cents, but fixed tax will go up 1.5-cents to 14.8 cents per gallon because of a bill approved by lawmakers in 2015.
The variable tax is based how much revenue is needed to meet the state budget for roads and is reviewed every 6 months to see if it should go up or down, depending on whether enough revenue has been coming in. This time, it's going up 7-tenths of a penny to 4.9-cents per gallon.
