(Neb)-Chadron Council Gives Final OK To Slower Hwy 20 Speed Limits
CHADRON - With no discussion, the Chadron City Council Monday night gave final approval to an ordinance slowing down drivers on the west side of Chadron.
The lack of discussion wasn't a surprise since the only comments and questions came on first reading a month ago and then only for explanation and clarification.
The new speed limits on West Highway 20 will now be 45 mph from just west of Stockade Road to about midway between Greenwood Cemetery and the junction with Highway 385 where it will drop to 30 all the way through town to the east city limits...nearly all of which is already 30.
The slower speed limits won't take effect until 15 days after the ordinance is published, which will be next Wednesday, Dec 27. The state, which approved the changes in October, has not said when it expects to change the affected signs.
