(Neb)-Transmission Line Equipment Failure Blamed For Hay Spring-Area Outage
HAY SPRINGS - About 750 Hay Springs area residents were without electricity for up to 6-1/2 hours overnight Wednesday night when an equipment failure on the Nebraska Public Power District transmission line knocked out two Northwest Rural Public Power District substations.
Northwest Rural general manager Chance Briscoe says the Rush Creek substation serving about 350 customers went down about 9:30 with multiple attempts to start it failing.
About midnight, Northwest Rural tried to backfeed the outage area from its Hay Springs substation, but instead the Hay Springs substation was knocked out of service as well...spreading the outage to another roughly 400 customers.
Briscoe says service from the Hay Springs substation was restored about 2:00 and the Rush Creek substation about 4:00.
