(SD)-Western Dakota Tech Students Much More Satisfied Than 5 Years Ago
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Student satisfaction with academic services reached record lows at Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City 5 years ago, leading to changes that have sparked a dramatic turnaround.
The school was ranked in the 8th percentile on the National Community College Benchmark Project survey in 2012, meaning that 92% of schools did better.
In response, Western Dakota Tech in 2014 assigned a success coach to every student and created a student success center...changes that helped Western Dakota Tech jumped to the 79th percentile on student satisfaction with academic services this year.
School officials say underlying the big change was the decision to re-focus on student success over education delivery, but that tailoring assistance to a diverse group of students also played a big role.
