(Neb)-Ricketts Unveils New "Choose Life" License Plate
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts on Monday unveiled the design for the state's new anti-abortion license plate, saying it reflects the state's "culture of life."
The "Choose Life" plate was commissioned by LB46, passed by the Legislature earlier this year, and will be available starting in January.
It costs $5 more than the standard license plates with the additional money going to supplement federal funding for the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program.
Joining Ricketts at the unveiling were Lt. Governor Mike Foley, State Senator Dan Watermeier - sponsor of LB 46, and a variety of pro-life leaders.
Ricketts told the crowd at the unveiling that "Life is precious, and public officials have a duty to stand up and be a voice for the unborn and most vulnerable," so he was proud Nebraska becomes the 30th state to offer 'Choose Life' license plates."
Tom Venzor, Executive Director of the Nebraska Catholic Conference, says the image on the plate will be "a daily reminder for us to defend life and offer hope to those in most need."
Information about ordering the "Choose Life" license plate will be made available through the Department of Motor Vehicles online
