SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - Spearfish Hospital President Larry Veitz died Saturday at age 59, but no cause of death has been released. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Veitz served as hospital president for 15 years, a job that also included overseeing clinics in Spearfish and Belle Fource, and in September he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Health Care Professionals from the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations.
Spearfish Hospital is part of Rapid City-based Regional Health, whose CEO Brent Phillips issued a statement saying that Veitz's contributions "will have a lasting impact" and that he "set a great vision for the future."
Phillips said Veitz helped expand Regional Health's markets to include over 500 caregivers and 40 physicians serving patients from the northern Black Hills, eastern Wyoming and eastern Montana.
