(Neb)-Former Gering Officer Charged With Stealing From
GERING, Neb. (AP) - A Gering police sergeant who resigned last month has been charged with 3 counts of misdemeanor theft for allegedly allegedly taking $1,300 from the local "Christmas Cop with a Shop" program.
41-year old Henry Moreno is scheduled for his first appearance in county court a week from Friday on the 22nd.
Deputy Attorney General Doug Warner is special prosecutor in the case and says the charges are the result of an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol. They accuse Moreno of taking money 3 times...$500 in August of last year, $300 this past March, and another $500 in June
Moreno was with the Gering police for 16 years as an officer, detective, and school resource officer. He was also active in a number of community service projects including the CapStone Super Hero Run as well as Shop with a Cop.
