(Neb)-Man Who Triggered School Lockout Arrested In SD
CHADRON - Chadron Police say the man who triggered a lockout most of yesterday morning in the Chadron Public Schools is now in custody in South Dakota.
Sgt Aron Crisman says 59-year old Harry Evans was wanted for questioning in South Dakota and Chadron police had reason to believe he might be in the vicinity of the schools.
They requested a lockout while conducting a grid search, concluding after it failed to find Evans that there was no longer a threat and allowing the lockout to end. Crisman says word was received last evening that Evans was found and taken into custody in South Dakota.
A lockout bars anyone from leaving a school building or entering without a staff physically identifying the individual and allowing them in.
Chadron School Superintendent Dr Caroline Winchester says classes continued with virtually no disruption yesterday, but the lockout did impact lunch at the high school...where many students take advantage of the open-campus policy to eat at home or at a restaurant.
With many more students looking to eat than are normally served by Lunchtime Solutions, the hot lunch provider for the Chadron Public Schools, several teachers stepped forward to help out by making sandwiches for students.
