BREAKING: Chadron Public Schools On Lockout, Police Searching For Suspect
(Chadron)- Chadron Public Schools went on lockout this morning at the request of Chadron Police Department, which was searching for a suspect.
Schools Superintendent Dr. Caroline Winchester says a lockout doesn't affect regular school operations, it just shuts down the electronic key system for all outside doors and requires a staffer inside the building to visually confirm the identity of anyone wanting to enter before letting them in.
Activation of a lockout also activates the school district's automatic notification system that sends a text message to parents and others who've subscribed to it.
The police department has not released any information about the search.
As of 10:00 a.m. the school had sent out a second notification notifying that they are still in a lock down.
