(Neb)-Chadron Council To Set Budget, Fees, Levy
CHADRON The Chadron City Council meets tonight at 6:00, a day later than usual because of Labor Day. Headlining the agenda is final approval of the budget, fees, and tax levy for the coming year.
The overall proposed budget of $17.5-million dollars includes all city funds, including reserves, as well as some capital projects that may or may not take place. The general fund, which covers regular operations outside sewer and water, is proposed at $4.9-million...up from $4.4-million.
The council decided two weeks ago to leave the levy at its current rate of 42.25 cents per hundred dollars of assessed value. Because total valuation in the city rose from last year, leaving the rate the same will bring in an additional $93,000.
Councilman George Klein case the lone no vote against the move, saying he was "really disappointed" by the action because he felt the city should ask for the same amount of money, which would reduce the tax rate to about 38-cents per hundred.
