(Neb)-Heavy Smoke From Other States Triggers Panhandle 911 Calls
CHADRON - Heavy smoke from wildfires in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming continues to create hazy conditions in the Black Hills and the Panhandle, triggering multiple weekend calls to law enforcement from Chadron to Scottsbluff.
Chadron Fire Chief Jack Rhembrandt says there are no major fires in or near the Panhandle, just smoke carried in by the wind, so there's no need to worry or panic...although people who are sensitive to smoke should close doors and windows. Some may also want to wear a mask when outdoors.
Chief Rhembrandt says anyone who does see a fire should call 911.
The U-S Environmental Protection Agency has an online site showing fire and smoke activity in the country. https://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=topics.smoke_wildfires
