(Neb)-Plea Deal In Fatal Traffic Accident In Mitchell
MITCHELL, Neb. (AP) - A young Mitchell man has pleaded No Contest to Motor Vehicle Homicide in a fatal crash on the edge of Mitchell last August. 24-year-old Joshua Bolzer faces up to 3 years in prison when he's sentenced Oct 20th.
Bolzer was scheduled for a 3-day trial beginning next Tuesday, but accepted a plea bargain that dropped charges of reckless and drunk driving in return for the guilty plea in the death of 19-year-old Dereon Betancur.
Police investigators said data from Bolzer's pickup showed it had reached a speed of 120 mph moments before hitting first a liquor store, then a utility pole, and finally a tractor. Wreckage was scattered across a half-block area with the engine resting in the street.
Bentancur, one of Bolzer's 3 passengers, died at the scene while the other two, both 19-year olds from Mitchell were hospitalized. All had been ejected from the pickup.
