(SD)-Shootout With Rapid City Police Leaves Man Dead
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Rapid City police say a man was shot and killed after firing at a local officer Saturday afternoon. No names have been released.
Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris says the shooting occurred as officers responded to a report of an "active shooter situation" in a home in a residential area of northern Rapid City with shots fired both before and after their arrival.
Chief Jegeris says police were working to evacuate other homes in the area when the subject exited, threatened an officer, then shot at the officer . The officer returned fire and fatally wounded the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
