(Neb)-Nebraska Passport Program Includes 3 Dawes County Sites

By: John Axtell Posted at: 03/01/2017 10:45 AM
CHADRON - The Nebraska Tourism Commission has announced the stops in this summer's Nebraska Passport program, which again features 80 attractions on 10 themed tours with one tour honoring the state's sesquicentennial.

State Passport program coordinator Erin Wirht says the focus this summer is on giving travelers truly memorable experiences, from discovering Nebraska's hidden gems to celebrating Nebraska's 150th birthday.

There are 11 Panhandle sites, including 4 in the northern Panhandle: Carhenge, the Mari Sandoz Center, Fort Robinson, and the Gibbons Honey Farms near Crawford.

Dawes and Sioux County Tourism Director Kristina Harter is excited about the selections and says the tourism agencies and attractions of the Panhandle will be highlighting them.

Several area attractions that were Passport Sites in the past weren't included this time and says a special effort is being planned to make sure they're not overlooked by visitors.

This will be the 8th year for the Passport program and the number of stamps given out has grown every year. New state tourism director John Ricks expects this year's total to surpass last year's record of more than 87,000.

Travelers will have from May 1 through September 30 to visit the attractions and get their stamps, which can be done digitally by smartphone with the free Nebraska Passport App. Those who used the mobile app last year will need to download an update to see the new program information.
