(Neb.)-Melbeta Robbery Suspect Apprehended In Scottsbluff
(Scottsbluff)-KNEB Radio in Scottsbluff is reporting that the 35-year-old Rapid City, South Dakota man accused of robbing the Melbeta All-Around and stealing a pickup has been captured. Officers from the Scottsbluff Police Department and Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Deputies apprehended Travis Leier early this afternoon in northern Scottsbluff.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman said that a citizen reported seeing the suspect at a local business. Scottsbluff officers responded, and Leier fled on foot.
Officers cordoned off the area and located the suspect hiding underneath a vehicle. No one was injured during the arrest.
Leier is accused of robbing the Melbeta All-Around Monday afternoon and threatening the clerk with a pair of pliers before leaving the area with an undisclosed number of items. Shortly thereafter, Leier is accused of stealing a pickup for a nearby residence. That truck was found Tuesday at a residence on the south edge of Bridgeport. Authorities said that the man believed to be Leier pulled into the yard there, and the resident gave him a ride into town and dropped him off at a motel.
Morrill County Sheriff Milo Cardenas went to the motel Tuesday morning to search for Leier but was unable to locate him. However, personal property believed to belong to Leier was located in the motel room. Leier is being held at the Scotts Bluff County detention Center awaiting his court appearance.
