(S.D.)-Legislature Works To Pass State Budget

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 03/14/2014 08:38 AM

PIERRE, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - South Dakota lawmakers are working to pass a budget and take care of other last-minute details as the main run of this year's legislative session comes to a close.

The Joint Appropriations Committee plans to finish work on the $4.3 billion state budget so the House and Senate can pass the spending measure by the end of the day.

Still pending are proposals to give more money to school districts, technical institutes and health care facilities that depend heavily on Medicaid, the program that provides medical services to low-income people.

Lawmakers will return to the Capitol for a final day on March 31 to consider any vetoes issued by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
