(S.D.)-Suspect Shot And Wounded By Trooper Changes Plea
RAPID CITY, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - A Rapid City man shot and wounded by a Highway Patrol trooper after a chase last fall has pleaded guilty to aggravated eluding, aggravated assault and attempted first-degree escape.
Twenty-seven-year-old William Chandler changed his plea on Monday.
Chandler was accused of leading officers on a chase on Interstate 90 after a trooper tried to pull him over for speeding in September. Authorities say he eventually was caught and arrested but managed to escape his handcuffs and steal a squad car. Chandler was shot after allegedly threatening to back the squad car into a trooper.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped the remaining aggravated assault charges and a grand theft charge from an incident in August.
Chandler will be sentenced on April 10.
