By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 03/03/2014 10:09 AM

(CHADRON)-The city of Chadron is scheduled to select a bid for the Main Street and First Street stormwater project at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday night, March 3rd. Two sealed bids were and opened on Thursday, February 20th. They included a bid from Carstensen Contracting Inc. of Pipestone, Minn., for $3,740,129.85, and one from Paul Reed Construction of Gering, Neb., for $4,665,932.01. Public works director Milo Rust says the Leo A. Daly Engineering Firm’s estimate for the project was $3.9 million. They will look over the bids and make their recommendation for contractor to the council, which will almost certainly be Carstensen.

Rust says Carstensen should be a good fit for the city in that the company “has done other projects of similar scale and scope. They are used to this type of environment and doing these things.” He said they also will probably help put the project on the fast track toward completion.

Rust says the project will continue all summer and fall and hopefully will be finished before the end of the year.

Rust says every effort will be made to ensure that the project, although large in magnitude, will create as little inconvenience for businesses and residents as possible.
