(S.D.)-Code Talkers To Be Honored By Congress
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A ceremony in Washington, D.C., later this month will honor Native American code talkers for their service during World Wars I and II.
South Dakota's congressional delegation says code talkers from eight South Dakota tribes will be recognized as part of the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony Nov. 20 that will involve 33 tribes from around the country.
Code talkers used their native language to send communications that enemies could not decode.
The Congressional Gold Medal is one of the highest honors bestowed by Congress.
