(S.D.)-State Delays Edgemont Uranium Mine Hearing In Rapid City

     SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - A Rapid City hearing scheduled next week on a proposed uranium mine has been delayed until two federal agencies and another state board decide whether to issue permits.
     The South Dakota Board of Minerals and Environment postponed a second Rapid City permit hearing for Powertech Uranium Corp.'s application for a mine near Edgemont.
     An order issued Tuesday by hearing chairman Rex Hagg says the board won't reschedule the state hearing until the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rule on the project and establish financial surety.
     He says the state Water Management Board also must first allocate water rights.
     Hagg cited a state law that allows the minerals board to grant a permit only if the project complies with "all applicable local, state, and federal laws."
