By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 11/05/2013 02:11 PM

(CHADRON)-For those waiting to see if they will be allowed to keep chickens in their backyards in Chadron and what restrictions there will be, the verdict is yet to be decided for a little while longer. The Chadron city council discussed the situation at their meeting Monday night and came to the conclusion that the city’s Planning/Zoning Commission should be the one to update and finalize the land use regulations and municipal code. Mayor Karin Fischer explains why.

Also at the meeting Monday night, the council approved, in a vote of 4-1 with vice mayor Levi Grant the dissenting vote, a new five-year fixed base operator agreement with Mark Hutton and A & M Aviation for services at the Chadron Municipal Airport. Hutton will have reduced responsibilities at the airport and thus reduced pay. He will receive more pay at the beginning of the contract, starting out with $2,000 a month for the first year, and then working down to no pay at the end in hopes of becoming a self-sustaining operation over the course of the contract.
