(Neb.)-Drinking/Texting Teen Gets Probation For Crash Death
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - A 19-year-old driver has been given four years of probation for felony vehicular homicide in western Nebraska.
Casey Lake had pleaded no contest to the charge. Lake was sentenced on Monday in North Platte.
Authorities say Lake lost control of her car March 16 on Interstate 80 east of Hershey. Prosecutors say the vehicle was moving at more than 100 mph, Lake had been drinking and she had been texting near the time of the accident. Lake's passenger, 19-year-old Emma Redinger, of Ogallala, was fatally injured.
The judge is requiring Lake to report to jail on Christmas, the date of the accident and Redinger's birthday during Lake's four years of probation. Lake also is required to spend her 21st birthday in jail.
