(S.D.)-Date For Custer Buffalo Roundup Moved
CUSTER, S.D. (AP) - The annual buffalo roundup in Custer State Park is being moved to a Friday this year.
The roundup traditionally is held on the last Monday of September, but this year it's scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard tells KGFX radio that it's believed if the roundup is held on a Friday, people will stay in the Black Hills for a few more days to enjoy what the area has to offer.
Some 14,000 visitors gathered last year to watch more than a thousand bison thunder down the park's hills to be sorted, branded and vaccinated. Some of the buffalo are sold each fall.
The associated arts festival featuring more than 150 vendors will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29.
