An effort is underway to expand the Lake McConaughy Visitor and Water Interpretive Center northeast of Ogallala in western Nebraska.
Chad Adams, treasurer of the Nebraska Water Center Foundation, tells the North Platte Telegraph that the plan would double the size of the center's 850-square-foot conference room.
Adams says the expansion would allow the center to host larger events, noting the room can accommodate only about 20 people now.
Adams says an expansion would also allow the center to be used as headquarters for officials during emergencies or disasters.
The cost of the expansion is estimated at $350,000.
