They opened as the Board of Equalization at 9 am, with the regular meeting convening at 9:20. Approval of minutes and claims progressed smoothly, as did the other regular agenda items.
One of the items on the agenda included discussion with Highway Superintendent Larry Hankin, as well as Larry McCaslin, regarding finalization of plans for the Bethel Loop Project. According to Hankin and McCaslin, the plans are completed and they are ready to advertise for bids. Hankin explained that it will the removal of a timber bridge which will be replaced with a 120” diameter culvert, which the County already owns. They will be advertising for the bids in local newspapers, with bids due by September 30, and the Commissioners opening bids at their October 2 meeting.
After an Executive Session and recommendation for the hiring of a part-time maintenance person, the Board reviewed an addendum from the City of Crawford regarding the law enforcement agreement. The agreement was initially signed by Crawford and the County on September 15, 2011. Addendum #2 has a revision, stating that the City will pay the County $218,870 per year, with $8,000 going to the purchase of one vehicle, and the remaining $210,870 being paid to the County at $17,572.50 per month beginning on October 15 of this year.
The Board adjourned after approving the addendum, with the next meeting scheduled for September 18, 2013.
