By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 09/04/2013 10:31 AM
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - It was another hot, dry week for South Dakota crops, except in the north-central part of the state, which got some much-needed rain.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service says topsoil moisture supplies for the week ending Sunday were 13 percent very short, 42 percent short, 44 percent adequate and just 1 percent surplus.
The winter wheat, spring wheat, oats and barley harvests are all nearing an end.
Corn at the mature stage was 1 percent, behind 16 percent last year and the 5 percent average.
Soybeans are behind last year in setting pods but ahead of average.
Sunflower blooming was 98 percent, near last year and equal to average.
