(DAWES COUNTY)-The Dawes County Fair is just around the corner. The 4-H Fashion Show on Wednesday evening, July 24th, which is the first official fair event of the year, will start off the festivities. UNL extension educator Jamie Goffena says the young people who take part in the fashion show have put a lot of time and imagination into their projects.

The public is invited to the fashion show at the Dawes County Fairgrounds to watch as 4-H members model their creative fashions, which were judged earlier in the day. Goffena says attending the event is one of the many great ways to support our community’s young people.

The Clover Kids are between the ages of 5-8, and the 4-H members are ages 8-18. The theme of this year’s fashion show is “Fire Up The Stage,” and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. in the 4-H building. Goffena says the show will last no more than an hour, and that way, “it won’t keep anyone out too late, but it will be a fun time.” She says the fashion project and show teach the young people helpful, hands-on skills that will be a benefit to them in the future, such as how to present themselves in public settings in a confident way.

4-H members brought their clothing, sewing, knitting, crochet and shopping entry items to the 4-H building Wednesday morning to be judged. Registration and practice began 8:30 a.m. and judging started at 9:00 a.m. Goffena shares her highlight of helping with the event.
