(Neb.)-State Patrol Conducts Enforcement Activities During Local Celebrations
(Scottsbluff)-The Nebraska State Patrol conducted special enforcement operations focusing on impaired driving during the Crawford PRCA rodeo on July 4th and the Chadron Fur Trade Days celebration on July 12th and 13th. The compliance checks were made possible either in whole or in part, from federal or state funds from the Division of Behavioral Health of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and Region 1 Behavioral Health Authority.
The funding allows the Nebraska State Patrol to put extra troopers on the road during local celebrations and will continue throughout the summer, putting extra emphasis on removing impaired drivers from the roadways. The next scheduled special enforcement effort will be held July 26th and 27th in conjunction with the Sheridan County Fair.
The enforcement initiatives resulted in 35 motorists being contacted for a variety of violations including speeding, failing to signal a turn, driving left of center and vehicle lighting violations. During the special enforcement operations one individual was arrested for driving while intoxicated and 4 individuals were cited for not utilizing required occupant restraint equipment in their vehicles.
The Nebraska State Patrol offers a Highway Helpline for anyone who observes a reckless or impaired driver, or anyone in need of non-emergency roadside assistance. The Highway Helpline can be accessed by dialing (star) *55 on any cellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline.
