(Chadron)- On July 11, 2013 the Chadron Police Department conducted an investigation into an alleged attempt to illegally obtain the prescription drug Ambien. During the investigation drug investigators discovered that 40 year old Chadron resident, Alyssa Eide, made an attempt to call in a prescription to a local pharmacy using a false name and a doctor’s DEA number. A further investigation revealed Eide has been using multiple doctors to prescribe Ambien to her and has filled these prescriptions throughout the Panhandle of Nebraska. Chadron Police arrested Alyssa Eide for Intentional Violations 28-418, a Class IV Felony, which makes it illegal to knowingly or intentionally obtain or attempt to obtain possession of a controlled substance by theft, misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, or subterfuge. Ambien is a controlled substance and is a schedule IV drug. Schedule IV drugs are described by the DEA as substances, or chemicals with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence.
Chadron Police were assisted by the WING/HIDTA Drug and Violent Crime Task force, which is partially funded through a grant by the Nebraska Crime Commission.
