By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 07/08/2013 08:06 AM

(Chadron)-Crawford is getting settled down after activities for the Fourth of July and the Old West Trail Rodeo concluded last week, and now its time for Chadron to kick into gear with a weekend of fun. The 37th Annual Fur Trade Days celebration will begin on Thursday and run through Sunday with activities for the entire family.
One of the staples of the celebration, the buckskinner’s primitive rendezvous, will set up on Thursday east of Chadron. The ever-popular flea market will open on Friday morning at the Dawes County Courthouse, and the majority of the activities will begin Friday evening.
A barbecue sponsored by Chadron Community Church will take place at 5 pm at the Courthouse, with food and also children’s activities. The historic flag ceremony will begin at 5:30, and talent show will follow at 6 pm.
Saturday morning will kick off with a pancake breakfast at the Masonic Hall at 6:30 am, with the Rotary Colter Run beginning at 7:30 am at the Armstrong Gymnasium on the Chadron State College Campus. The Lion’s Club parade, which begins at 10 am, will be preceded by a kids parade down Main Street, and the Chamber buffalo burger barbecue will follow the parade, as will the kids tractor pull.
The ice cream social, sponsored by the First Congregational Church, will run from 11 am to 2 pm at the church, and music will be featured at the Courthouse gazebo from 11 am to 2 pm.
Wilson Park will be the site for the 5th Annual Classic Car Show, sponsor4ed by the Chadron Corvette Club. It will run from noon to 3 pm. The World Championship Buffalo Chip Throw will begin at 1 pm on Main Street in front of the Courthouse, and shuttle rides to the buckskinner’s camp will be offered from 1-5 pm.
An open house tribute to former Chadron High School wrestling coach Bill Kant will be held at the American Legion Club at 123 Bordeaux, from 2-4 pm. All are welcome and invited to attend. Historical cemetery tours will run at 4, 5:30 and 7 pm at both Calvary and Greenwood Cemeteries. The Fur Trade Days Rodeo will round out the day at the Dawes County Fairgrounds at 6 pm.
Sunday will feature the flea market once again, the pancake breakfast, and Kiwanas Regatta at Chadron State Park at 2 pm. For a complete list of events, pick up a schedule at the KCSR/KBPY Studios, or at the Chadron Chamber of Commerce.
