(Neb.)- Proposed Western Nebraska Beef Plant Criticized

By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 07/03/2013 03:32 PM
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) - A proposed beef processing plant is facing some opposition in Scottsbluff as officials review the plan.

The nonprofit Twin Cities Development Corporation says it supports economic development that creates jobs in the area. But Twin Cities opposes the Future Food Energy plant.

Twin Cities board president Steve Reisig told the Scottsbluff City Council that his group is worried that Future Food Energy's business plan to focus on the South Korean market is realistic.

Reisig says the company also might not have enough capital and hasn't been forthcoming about its foreign investors.

The planning commission will review the project on Monday.

The company has offered to buy 43 acres of city land for $10,000 an acre.
