(Neb.)-Chadron Receives Grant Funding For Downtown Project
(Chadron)-The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $106,300 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to five communities, including Chadron and Gering, to complete the Phase I portion of downtown revitalization projects.
According to KNEB in Scottsbluff, the communities will each receive these funds to develop strategic plans that complement existing downtown revitalization plans. Chadron will receive $23,500, and Gering will receive $30,000. The five communities awarded grant funding will provide matching funds for their projects.
After two previous failed attempts for Gering to receive the funds, Twin Cities Development Executive Director Rawnda Pierce says merchants in Gering were more active in the process this time, and she believes that made the difference. She says they were more involved in the planning stages, the surveys, and the presentations. Pierce says it seemed to be the grass roots involvement of the business community that made this application successful.
Other communities to receive the funding included Cozad, Gothenburg and Madison. Cozad and Gothenburg will each receive $11,400, Chadron will receive $23,500, and Gering and Madison will each receive $30,000.
