(Neb.)-Donations Being Taken For Oklahoma Tornado Victims

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 05/22/2013 01:29 PM

(Alliance)-While Nebraskans may feel somewhat helpless when it comes to helping tornado victims in Oklahoma, one woman from Alliance isn’t wasting any time to get things collected for those affected by the devastating EF5 twister that tore apart the town of Moore.
Sara Leisy is a stay-at-home mom whose husband works in Tulsa, just one hour away from Moore. Leisy wanted to do something to help what she calls, “hard-working, God-fearing” people in the community. So, she organized a drive for supplies which will be transported to Oklahoma on Friday. The supplies will be loaded into a U-Haul to be transported to Kearney Friday morning, where semis will take these and more donations down to the storm-ravaged community.
Donations are being taken in Alliance at Kodee Wignall’s home at the Towers at 423 Boyd, from 9 a.m to 12 noon through Thursday, at Leisy’s home at 1312 Platte, or with Kendra Schott at Cover-Jones Motor Company. For those who want to make a donation but cannot make it to Alliance before the U-Haul leaves, donations are also being accepted at the KCSR/KBPY Studios in Chadron at 226 Bordeaux. Those will be taken to Alliance on Thursday evening, so those wishing to donate are asked to get their supplies to the office by 4 pm on Thursday.
Leisy said items requested are non-perishable food items, water, shovels, 5-gallon buckets, first aid kits, diapers, wipes, formula, Rubbermaid totes, snacks such as beef jerky/crackers/cookies, latex and work gloves, and gift cards for stores selling supplies such as those in the Moore area. Leisy said it is a way to send a little bit of love from Nebraska.
If anyone has any questions, they can contact the KCSR/KBPY News Department by calling the business office at 432-5545, or 1-800-266-4682.
