(S.D.)-Roughlock Falls Road To Be Spruced Up
DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — People driving to view the picturesque Roughlock Falls in western South Dakota will soon have a smoother ride thanks to a $70,000 spruce-up expected by month's end.
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks has agreed to contribute $40,000 to help pay for the road improvements. Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Allan Bonnema says that it's been at least 20 years since the road was last graveled.
To get the state money, the county needs to finish the road improvements by the end of May. Bonnema says that county workers already have started cleaning ditches to improve drainage.
He estimates that about half of the prep work is finished.
Roughlock Falls was featured as a setting in the Academy Award-winning film "Dances with Wolves."
