(Neb.)- City Of Chadron Set To Vote On LB840  Listen

By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 04/24/2013 01:50 PM

(Chadron)- Providing 2.7 million dollars towards the hospital. That is what the current LB840 sales tax has done for the city of Chadron. Tuesday evening the final town hall meeting was held providing information to the community regarding the upcoming LB840 vote next Tuesday, April 30th. The hospital is just one of several beneficiaries of the money garnered from the LB840 tax that is set to expire in September, 2014.

Chadron City Manager Wayne Anderson says that there are several projects that could stem from a possible passing of LB840.

Since the installation of the original LB840 tax in the early 2000’s, $500,000 has gone to business loans in Chadron , creating over seventy jobs in the community and has assisted in 19 different projects.

Anderson says that if LB840 is turned down, the city would possibly have to look at a last resort option in funding projects, a possibility that includes property taxes as that option.

Anderson says that if LB840 happens to be voted down, the next opportunity to bring it back in to affect would be in 23 months, but says that now is the time to approve this proposition.
