(Neb.)-Chadron PD Encourages People To Be Cautious Of Boston Fundraising Sites
(Chadron)-Although the Boston Marathon bombings occurred over a thousand miles away, the effects are being felt from coast to coast, and, unfortunately, people are trying to take advantage of this horrible tragedy.
The Chadron Police Department is advising area residents of a scam stemming from this event. According to a press release from the PD, the bombings at the Boston Marathon occurred on April 15, 2013 and the department sends their thoughts and prayers out to those who were killed and injured during this cowardly attack. However, in the days following the bombings, fake domains, websites and charities have been identified and the department believes there will be more scams coming in the near future as well as fake Twitter and Facebook posts are already circulating on social media.
Many of these fake or malicious websites and social media posts look identical to a legitimate website and some social media post appear to be real. The PD is encouraging people not to be fooled.
They said if someone is thinking about donating money in support of those affected by the bombings in Boston, to please rely on official fund raising charities like the America Red Cross. Their advice is always be suspicious when clicking on links or interacting on social media accounts claiming to represent the best interests of those involved in this attack.
