(CUSTER, S.D.) - U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) plans to present military medals to two Black Hills veterans for their military service on Friday, March 29th. Johnson will award Thomas McDill, a World War II veteran, former Prisoner Of War (POW), and Bataan Death March survivor; and Michael Norton, a veteran of the Afghanistan War. The presentation will commence at 11:15 a.m. at the Custer VFW Post (3442), 721 Mt. Rushmore Rd., in Custer.
Johnson was instrumental in securing the medals, which aim to reflect the service and sacrifice of these veterans. He will be awarding medals, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and POW Medal, to McDill and the Purple Heart to Norton. McDill calls Custer, S.D., home, and Norton lives in Hot Springs.
