(Wyo.)-Report: Wyo. Youth Drinking, Tobacco Use Down
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A new study suggests that alcohol and tobacco use is on the decline among Wyoming junior high and high school students.
The report by the University of Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center finds "substantial reductions" in teenage drinking in 17 of 19 counties surveyed.
The survey results came out Wednesday. They show that last year, 18 percent of eighth graders reported drinking alcohol in the previous month. That was down from 24 percent between 2006 and 2010.
Tobacco use was down in 15 of 19 Wyoming counties.
The portion of 12th graders who said they'd at least tried smoking at some point was 43 percent last year. That was down from 48 percent between 2006 and 2010.
