RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Hundreds of community members and law enforcement officers in Rapid City are preparing to take the plunge into icy waters.
Coordinator Dave Stratton says the event is part of a fundraiser throughout the country and world benefiting Special Olympics.
The Rapid City group last year raised $38,000 for Special Olympic athletes.
Spearfish plungers are also preparing to take to the cold this weekend.
Candi Birk of the Spearfish Police Department says the Northern Hills plunge is already more than two-thirds of the way to meeting its fundraising goal of $35,000.
