(Regional)-Entire Nebraska Panhandle Under Blizzard Watch

By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 02/08/2013 11:01 AM

(Chadron)- The National Weather Services in Cheyenne, North Platte, and Rapid City have issued a Blizzard Watch for the entire Panhandle of Nebraska stretching back to the north central portions of Nebraska stretching up to northern South Dakota starting from just west of Rapid City. Most other areas within the region are in a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Storm Watch until Sunday morning.

The blizzard watch is in affect from 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, until 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

With this storm system forecasters are predicting 5-9 inches of accumulating snow along with wind speeds between 30-40 mph and occasional gust up to 50 mph.

The mix of heavy snow and strong winds do produce the possibility of blowing and drifting snow. Some drifts are expected to reach two to three feet in height, and will heavily impact travel and may cause widespread road closures.
