(Neb.)-Sen. Davis Introduces Wildfire Control Act Of 2013
(Chadron)- A bill that would adopt the Wildfire Control Act of 2013 is on the table for legislature. Senator Al Davis introduced the bill on January 23rd, in an effort to strengthen the fight against wildfires in Northwest Nebraska.
Part of the proposed Wildfire Control Act would allow for two single engine air tankers to be located near Chadron and Valentine. It would also allow for more extensive training into fighting wildfires to volunteers, property owners, and communities.
The Wildfire Control Act of 2013 is being introduced in wake of last year’s wildfires that swept across northwest and north central Nebraska. Eleven wildfires were reported in the far northwest corner of Nebraska including eight alone in Dawes County according to the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.
Damage caused by the Douthit and West Ash fires last summer was over 86,000 acres of land alone.
In part with the adoption of LB 634 it would allow for a Nebraska based incident management team and Nebraska based oversight on rehabilitation of areas tarnished by wildfires.
